It's nice to take a break from commissions and do a painting just for the hell of it. I watched the documentary Surfwise a few months ago of a family of surfers that really stuck with me. The film features Doc Paskowitz, who abandoned his medical practice to seek the utopian dream of traveling around in a camper catching waves with his wife, oh and nine children. It's a really interesting depiction of a complicated family and how being raised on the water affected the children's futures. I liked the idea of the water being their home and how the sensation of being weightless defined their youth.
